The Sacred City of Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a UNESCO World Heritage site that embodies Buddhism for millions of people worldwide. The city is built around the sacred Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa).
The temple houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha, making it one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the world. The annual Esala Perahera, a grand procession featuring elephants, dancers, and drummers, celebrates this sacred relic.
The city also features beautiful Kandyan architecture, traditional arts and crafts, and the serene Kandy Lake. The surrounding hills provide a stunning backdrop to this spiritual and cultural center.
